Don’t make this costly mistake!

Hi Reader!

Nobody’s perfect.

Not even the most successful entrepreneurs like Amy Porterfield. She didn’t start with a $100 million business—she made mistakes, just like everyone else.

Starting your online business means embracing mistakes.

They’re part of the process.

But the difference between struggling entrepreneurs and successful ones is this: successful entrepreneurs make progress by avoiding avoidable mistakes.

The biggest mistake new online entrepreneurs make is focusing on perfection instead of progress.

What does that look like?

Spending too much time tweaking your logo, obsessing over website design, and endlessly planning your launch.

These tasks feel productive, but they don’t actually move the needle.

The truth is, your business won’t grow if it never gets off the ground.

My Personal Experience? When I started my first blog, I spent too much time on design, rather than creating valuable content. I quickly realized my audience didn’t care about the look of the blog—they cared about the solutions I was providing.

Why Do We Fall Into the Perfectionism Trap? As new entrepreneurs, we fear failure, lack clarity, and often get overwhelmed by too much advice. This fear keeps us from taking action. We get stuck in endless preparation instead of publishing our first post or launching that product.

But here’s the reality: We can’t improve until we take action and get feedback.

The Consequences of Perfectionism Perfectionism can:

  1. Waste time and resources.
  2. Cause missed opportunities.
  3. Lead to loss of confidence and momentum.

I’ve been there. I remember starting offline businesses where we didn’t waste time on perfection—we took action and generated revenue.

How to Avoid This Mistake

  1. Shift Your Mindset: Focus on progress over perfection. Publish your first post, even if it’s not perfect.
  2. Take Action Early: Start building momentum by launching even a simple version of your product.
  3. Clarity Over Complexity: Use the Who-What-How framework to simplify your goals. Who are you helping? What problem are you solving? How will you deliver the solution?

Other Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Relying too much on social media—build an email list too.
  • Trying to serve everyone—focus on a specific niche.
  • Underpricing your offers—value your expertise.
  • Neglecting your mindset and self-care—entrepreneurship is a long game.

Progress Over Perfection Leads to Success: Mistakes are inevitable, but perfectionism doesn’t serve you. Instead, take imperfect action today and make progress.

Let’s make progress together!

Let’s get started!
